Frequently Asked Questions
What is Pelvic Floor Physical therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on improving the strength, flexibility, and coordination of the muscles in the pelvic floor. This therapy is particularly beneficial for women who have given birth, experienced pelvic pain, or are dealing with urinary or bowel incontinence. Through various exercises, relaxation techniques, internal and external palpation and feedback training, pelvic floor physical therapy aims to address problems such as pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, and postpartum recovery. The therapy sessions are tailored to each individual's specific needs and are conducted in a comfortable and supportive environment. With the guidance of a skilled pelvic floor physical therapist, women can regain control over these essential muscles, improve their quality of life, and enjoy a healthier and more comfortable motherhood journey,
What is typical in an evaluation?
Evaluation sessions usually last between 70-90 minutes. Even though you may be coming for one specific ailment, I prefer to take a whole body approach. This includes evaluating your entire body from head to toes as well as how your body functions in various positions. I believe this is the only true way to get to the root of the problem and enable us to treat it correctly. Throughout this session I will be asking questions and explaining my findings as I go along.
Will there be an internal vaginal/anal exam?
You know you’re all thinking it ;). I typically prefer to perform an internal exam as this will enable me to properly assess the internal pelvic muscles and evaluate any trigger points, tightness, or weakness. However, if a patient is uncomfortable exam I will never pressure them into it. There are many ways to evaluate the pelvic floor without going internal. Physical therapy environment should be one the patient is fully comfortable and that is always my utmost priority
What is typical in a treatment session?
Treatment Sessions last between 55-60 minutes. Treatment sessions typically vary from session to session. My goal is to get your problem solved and discharges as soon as possible. Therefore I like to make every session as unique as possible. The session will consist of manual/hands-on treatment as well as targeted exercises to strengthen, improve coordination and lengthen muscles.
When can I start pelvic floor PT?
Whenever! You do not need a physician’s referral to begin. I also alway tell my post-partum moms to come when they feel ready, no need to wait for the 6 week check up.
Do you accept insurance?
We are conisidered out-of-network for insurance companies. This allows us clinicians to treat the patient in the best possible way without the confines of insurance limitations. We accept HSA, credit card, venmo and zelle. We also offer payment packages which decrease overall cost.
What should I wear to my sessions?
We recommend wearing something loose and comfortable since there typically will be moving around and exercises
